When searching by tag, be sure to enter the tag exactly as it appears in the tag list. Where there is a double dash in the tag, be sure to enter both dashes without a space between them and the words.
Personal names are also used as tags. To search for a personal name tag, enter the last name first, followed by a period. Then enter the first name and any middle name or initial after the period. For example:
Calvin. John
Edwards. Jonathan
Lewis. C.S.
Names of some persons in the Bible appear in the tag list and can be used. However, names of post-Biblical persons, such as the three above, do not appear in the tag list and can instead be used in the same format in the catalog.
The "subjects" index in the Advanced Search menu searches subjects assigned according to the Library of Congress Subject Heading list by outside sources. Some records have these subjects and some do not, but local staff cannot enter or alter them. Click this link to find a list of Library of Congress Subject Headings.
The "comments" index, which searches the comments field includes dedication statements such as "given by" or "in memory of." Entering those words and the name of a book donor should retrieve that person's donations to the library. For certain titles of an academic nature, the comments field may include a contents note which lists all the parts of the work, together with their authors (or presenters, in the case of lectures). The running time of disc recordings may also appear in the comments field.
